Dealing with hair loss is a common challenge for many individuals. A practical solution to promote hair regrowth involves applying a homemade hair oil enriched with beneficial herbs. In this post, I will share a do-it-yourself (DIY) hair oil recipe incorporating various herbs known for their hair-nourishing properties.
Ingredients:
- 250 ml high-quality Coconut oil
- Handful of Hibiscus flowers
- 1 cup Curry leaves
- 1/2 cup Henna leaves
- 1 cup Brahmi leaves
- 1 tbsp Humming Bird Tree leaves
- 3 Amla (Indian Gooseberry), cut into small pieces, seeds removed
- 4 slices Ridge gourd
- 2 tbsp Fenugreek seeds
- 1 tbsp black sesame seeds
Preparation & Application:
- Ensure all leaves and Amla pieces are thoroughly washed and towel-dried to eliminate moisture.
- Remove the pollen part of the hibiscus flowers.
- Heat coconut oil in a low-medium flame Kadai (iron pot).
- Once the oil is warm, add Amla pieces, Ridge gourd slices, and stir with a dry ladle.
- Add fenugreek seeds and sesame seeds, followed by each type of leaf one by one, allowing them to sizzle.
- Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring intermittently until the oil is infused. The hibiscus will lose color, and the oil will turn green.
- Remove from heat and let it cool down.
- Strain the oil into a clean, dry container.
- The leftover solids can be added to plain coconut oil for future infusions.
- Store the oil in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
- Apply the oil periodically by massaging it into the scalp using your fingertips.
- Allow it to soak for an hour or overnight before washing your hair.
- Use daily for three months to see results, incorporating it into your nighttime routine.
Benefits of Ingredients:
- Coconut oil mimics sebum, the body’s natural oil, preventing scalp dryness and protecting hair follicles.
- Hibiscus-infused oil promotes hair growth, provides vitamin C, and nourishes the hair, adding volume and thickness.
- Curry leaves are rich in antioxidants, moisturizing the scalp, and preventing hair loss and thinning.
- Henna stimulates hair growth, enhances follicle protection, and addresses hair loss issues.
- Amla nourishes follicles, extracts dandruff, and boosts hair growth with its vitamin C content.
- Fenugreek seeds contain protein and nicotinic acid, beneficial for treating hair loss, dandruff, and scalp problems.
- Brahmi soothes tension, treats a dry and damaged scalp, and addresses issues like dandruff and split ends.
- Ridge gourd prevents greying, strengthens roots, and restores pigments in the hair roots.
Incorporating this DIY hair oil into your routine can contribute to healthier, revitalized hair.
