This lightweight, alcohol-free toner combines three proven astringents—green-tea catechins, cucumber tannins, and fermented rice water—to visibly tighten enlarged pores while keeping skin calm and hydrated. A dash of pure rosewater balances pH and lends a subtle floral freshness, and a few drops of vegetable glycerin prevent the dryness that often follows strong astringents. With everyday kitchen staples you can whip up a spa-worthy formula that leaves skin smooth, refined, and shine-free in under 15 minutes.
½ cup cooled, strongly brewed green tea (2 bags or 2 tsp loose leaves)
¼ cup fermented rice water (soaked overnight, then strained)
¼ cup fresh cucumber juice (from one small cucumber)
2 tbsp pure rosewater
½ tsp vegetable glycerin
Optional booster: 2–3 drops tea-tree essential oil for extra clarifying power
Steep tea in ½ cup hot water for 5–7 minutes; cool completely to preserve antioxidants.
Rinse 2 tbsp raw rice, cover with 1 cup water, and let ferment 8–12 hours.
Strain; you’ll need ¼ cup of this slightly sour, vitamin-rich liquid.
Blend or grate cucumber and strain through cheesecloth to collect ¼ cup clear juice.
Blend the Toner
Patch test behind the ear to rule out sensitivities.
Soak a cotton pad or reuseable cloth and sweep upward over face and neck, or mist directly.
Oily/combination skin – morning and night. Normal/sensitive skin – once daily or every other evening.
Keep refrigerated; use within 7 days (no synthetic preservatives).
Mid-day, tap a few drops onto the T-zone to curb shine without disrupting makeup.
Green Tea – Catechins tighten pores, diminish excess sebum, and soothe redness.
Fermented Rice Water – Natural enzymes and niacinamide brighten and tone, while soft starches give a gentle, skin-firming effect.
Cucumber Juice – Tannins and silica visibly tighten pores and cool inflamed skin.
Rosewater – Balances pH, lightly astringent yet calming.
Vegetable Glycerin – Draws water into the stratum corneum, preventing the “stripped” feeling common with pore-minimising products.
Tea-Tree Oil (optional) – Adds antibacterial support to keep congestion at bay.
