DIY Bay Leaf and Clove Anti-Wrinkle Oil

Let’s set expectations honestly first, because a lot of DIY oil articles won’t: no homemade oil erases wrinkles. Wrinkles form from collagen loss, years of sun exposure, and skin that’s lost some of its elasticity — and no amount of any oil reverses that overnight.

So what does a good anti-wrinkle oil actually do? It protects your skin from the daily damage that speeds up wrinkling, and it keeps skin soft and hydrated so the fine lines you do have look softer and less obvious. This bay leaf and clove infused oil does exactly that — using two ingredients rich in one of the most powerful skin antioxidants around.

Here’s the mechanism, the recipe, and — importantly with clove — how to make it safely.

Why bay leaf and clove work together

Clove is an antioxidant powerhouse. Its active compound, eugenol, is one of the strongest natural antioxidants you can put on skin. Antioxidants matter for wrinkles because free radicals — from sun, pollution and daily stress — break down collagen and accelerate ageing. Neutralising some of that damage helps your skin hold onto its firmness longer.

Bay leaf brings a gentler dose of the same idea. Bay leaf (tej patta) is also rich in antioxidant compounds, and it’s much milder than clove — which makes it the perfect base to soften clove’s intensity while adding its own protective benefit.

The carrier oil does the visible work. Whichever oil you infuse into — almond, olive or jojoba — moisturises and supports your skin’s barrier. This is the part you see: well-hydrated skin looks plumper, and fine lines genuinely appear softer when skin isn’t dry. Add a gentle massage and you get a temporary boost in circulation too, for a fresher look.

So the honest picture: antioxidants to slow damage, oil to soften the look of lines. That’s a worthwhile combination — not a miracle.

The Recipe

Makes 1 small bottle (about 100 ml)

Ingredients:

  • 4–5 dried bay leaves
  • 8–10 whole cloves
  • 100 ml carrier oil (sweet almond, olive, or jojoba all work well)

Method — the slow infusion (best):

  1. Lightly crush the bay leaves and cloves so they release their compounds. Don’t powder them.
  2. Add them to a clean, completely dry glass jar and pour in the oil until the leaves and cloves are fully submerged.
  3. Seal and leave the jar in a warm spot away from direct sunlight for 2 weeks, giving it a gentle shake every couple of days.
  4. Strain out the leaves and cloves through a fine cloth or sieve. Store the oil in a clean dark bottle.

Method — the quick warm infusion (same day):

  1. Add the crushed bay leaves, cloves and oil to a small pan.
  2. Warm on the lowest possible heat for 15–20 minutes — you want it warm, never bubbling or smoking. Overheating destroys the antioxidants you’re trying to keep.
  3. Turn off the heat, let it cool completely, then strain and bottle.

The slow method gives a richer, gentler oil; the warm method is for when you don’t want to wait.

How to use it

  • Use it a few times a week at night, not necessarily daily to start.
  • Take just 2–3 drops, warm between your fingertips, and massage gently into clean skin using upward circular motions. Focus on areas like the outer eyes (but not too close), forehead and smile lines.
  • Leave it on overnight and rinse in the morning.
  • A little goes a long way — more oil doesn’t mean more benefit.
