Healthy hair growth depends on three pillars: a clean, stimulated scalp; strong follicles; and locked-in moisture to prevent breakage. Whole cloves provide eugenol-rich antimicrobial and antioxidant activity that helps keep the scalp clear and invigorated. Baby oil (cosmetic-grade mineral oil) forms an occlusive layer that slows water loss and leaves strands flexible and less prone to snapping. When you infuse this base with rosemary, fenugreek, curry leaves, and vitamin E, you add compounds known to enhance blood flow, reduce oxidative stress, and supply proteins and phytonutrients that support thicker hair.
(Use organic or food-grade herbs where possible.)
½ cup unscented baby oil (mineral-oil-based) – Creates a lightweight seal that traps hydration.
2 Tbsp whole cloves – Antimicrobial; helps keep follicles clear.
1 Tbsp dried rosemary leaves – Often used to stimulate circulation and encourage growth.
1 Tbsp fenugreek seeds (methi) – Supplies proteins and nicotinic acid that may curb shedding.
10–12 fresh curry leaves – Packed with beta-carotene, amino acids, and antioxidants that nourish the scalp.
2 vitamin E capsules (400 IU total) – Provides lipid-soluble antioxidants that help protect follicle cells.
Optional booster: add 1 tsp castor oil for extra thickness, though it does increase stickiness.
Prepare the herbs. Lightly crush cloves and fenugreek with a mortar to expose surfaces. Tear curry leaves to release their essential oils.
Warm the base. In a heat-safe glass jar, combine baby oil and rosemary leaves. Place the jar in a gently simmering water bath (double-boiler style) for about 10 minutes; keep the temperature below 90 °C to preserve nutrients.
Add remainder. Remove from heat, stir in crushed cloves, fenugreek, and curry leaves. Pierce the vitamin E capsules, squeeze contents into the mixture, and swirl gently.
Slow steep. Seal the jar and let the blend infuse in a cool, dark cupboard for 48 hours, shaking twice daily for even extraction. The oil will take on a light amber hue.
Strain. Pour through fine cheesecloth or a coffee filter into a clean amber glass bottle to remove sediment. Label and date.
Patch test on the inner arm 24 hours before first use to rule out sensitivity.
Pre-wash massage
Warm 2–3 teaspoons of the oil between your palms.
Massage into the scalp for 5 minutes using small circular motions to boost micro-circulation.
Smooth the remaining oil along mid-lengths and ends to reduce breakage.
Soak time – Leave on for at least 30 minutes; overnight treatments give deeper penetration. Protect pillowcases with an old towel.
Cleanse – Shampoo twice with a mild, sulfate-free cleanser to remove residual mineral oil film, then condition as usual.
Frequency – Repeat one to two times weekly. Consistency over 8–12 weeks aligns with hair’s natural growth cycle for best results.
Scalp detox & reduced flakes – Eugenol in cloves plus the antimicrobial nature of curry leaves help discourage dandruff-causing microbes, keeping follicles unblocked.
Improved circulation – Rosemary is renowned for stimulating blood flow, and the massage step amplifies delivery of nutrients and oxygen to roots.
Protein & micronutrient boost – Fenugreek and curry leaves supply plant proteins, iron, and beta-carotene that may strengthen the hair shaft and reduce thinning.
Moisture retention – Baby oil’s occlusive qualities minimize water loss, keeping strands supple and less prone to friction damage.
Antioxidant shield – Vitamin E combats free-radical stress linked to premature follicle regression and graying.
Cost-effective & customizable – Every ingredient is a grocery-store staple, and you can tailor the formula with extras like hibiscus petals for shine or lavender essential oil for fragrance.
