3 Home Remedies To Remove Skin Tags At Home

Skin tags are very common, harmless, and pose no medical concerns. However, many of us prefer to remove them as they can affect our physical appearance. Skin tags are tiny to medium-sized growths that can be found mostly on the neck, chest, under the breast, armpits, and back. There are numerous reasons for skin tags, including genetics, type 2 diabetes, hormonal imbalances, fluctuations in cholesterol levels, or obesity.

While you can get rid of skin tags through surgical procedures or by using high-frequency electrical energy to burn them off, they can also be removed at home using a few simple remedies. Below are three effective home remedies to try for removing skin tags.

1. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is known for its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties, making it safe to use on your skin.

Instructions:

  1. Wash the affected area properly.
  2. Mix a few drops of Vitamin E oil with a few drops of tea tree oil.
  3. Apply the solution onto the skin tag with a cotton swab.
  4. Put a bandage on top of it and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Remove the bandage and rinse the area with plain lukewarm water.
  6. Repeat this treatment daily until the skin tag falls off.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is another effective remedy for removing skin tags.

Instructions:

  1. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of water.
  2. Soak a cotton ball or pad in this solution and place it on your skin tag.
  3. Secure the cotton pad with a bandage and leave it on for 20 minutes.
  4. Rinse off with plain water, pat dry, and repeat this process twice daily.
  5. It might take 3-4 weeks for the skin tag to come off or break off.

3. Garlic

Garlic is known for its strong properties but is less popular due to its overpowering smell.

Instructions:

  1. Take a couple of garlic cloves, peel the skin, and crush them into a smooth paste.
  2. Apply the smooth garlic paste around your skin tag and secure it with a bandage for about 30 minutes.
  3. Wash off the area with plain water and repeat this daily until the skin tag comes off.
  4. If you can’t bear the raw garlic paste, you can use garlic oil instead.
  5. It might take a few more weeks than usual for the skin tag to break off.

Important Notes:

  • These remedies are effective only if the skin tag is small in size.
  • If you feel any discomfort, stop using the remedy immediately.
  • If you experience any changes in your skin tag or if it irritates your skin, seek medical advice for removal.
  • Do not mistake other skin conditions like moles or warts for skin tags, as these remedies won’t work for them.
  • Though these remedies might work, we always recommend consulting a doctor first to avoid the risk of injury or infection.
