Put this oil in your belly button

Embraced by generations—from grandmothers and mothers to daughters—there’s a timeless home ritual many Indian homes still swear by: navel oiling. It may sound unusual at first, but in Ayurveda this practice (often called nabhi chikitsa or navel therapy) is believed to support overall balance by nourishing the body through gentle, regular oil massage at the navel area.

The navel was our first point of nourishment in the womb—connected through the umbilical cord—so Ayurveda considers the nabhi (navel) a powerful center of vitality. A few drops of warm oil massaged around the belly button can feel deeply soothing, and many people do it as a simple bedtime ritual for comfort, skin softness, and relaxation.

#1. Supporting Digestion & Bloating

If you often feel heavy, bloated, or sluggish after meals, mustard oil is a traditional go-to.

How to use:
Warm 2–3 drops slightly (lukewarm, not hot), apply around the navel, and massage clockwise for 1–2 minutes.

Other oils you can try (choose what suits you):

  • Hing (asafoetida) infused sesame oil (very traditional for gas/bloating)

  • Ajwain infused oil (great for heaviness)

  • Peppermint oil (only 1 drop, always diluted in a carrier oil)

  • Ginger oil (diluted; comforting for nausea-like uneasiness)

#2. Glowing, Well-Moisturized Skin

For a softer, healthier-looking glow, olive oil is a lovely option because it’s rich and deeply conditioning.

How to use:
Massage 2–3 drops around the navel daily before bed. Consistency matters more than quantity.

More oils for glow + dryness:

  • Sweet almond oil (dry, dull skin)

  • Rosehip oil (uneven tone + “healthy glow” feel)

  • Grapeseed oil (lightweight, non-sticky)

  • Kumkumadi oil (traditional Ayurvedic facial glow oil—use only a drop or two if sensitive)

#3. Calming Breakouts & Skin Imbalances

If you’re dealing with stubborn blemishes, neem oil is often used in traditional routines—but it’s strong, so use it wisely.

Best way:
Mix 1 drop neem oil + 4–5 drops coconut/jojoba oil, then apply to the navel area at night.

Other helpful oils (gentler options):

  • Tea tree oil (only 1 drop, always diluted—never directly)

  • Tamanu oil (popular for acne-prone skin support)

  • Jojoba oil (balances oiliness; very skin-friendly)

#4. Hair Strength & Growth Support

For weak roots, dryness, or hair fall concerns, many people love coconut oil because it’s nourishing and protective.

How to use:
Massage 3–4 drops into the navel area at night, especially during dry मौसम or stressful weeks.

More oils to add for stronger hair:

  • Castor oil (very thick—mix with coconut/almond oil)

  • Bhringraj oil (Ayurvedic classic for hair care)

  • Amla oil (shine + scalp nourishment)

  • Jojoba oil (great if scalp is dry and hair is frizzy)

Quick Tips to Get the Best Results

  • Do it at night for a calming bedtime routine.

  • Use warm (lukewarm) oil for better comfort.

  • If you have sensitive skin, patch test first—especially neem/peppermint/tea tree.

  • Avoid if you have active rashes, infections, or fresh piercings around the area.
