Simple Home Remedies For Dark Spots That Are Very Effective

Dark spots or Blemishes are a common concern for most of us these days. Age, sun exposure and hormonal imbalance can cause dark spots and Sun exposure is responsible for at least 70-80% of  these dark spots. The appearance of the dark spots and blemishes  tend to increase with time, with increase in melanin giving a dark , patchy look on our face. If you are someone who believes skin care should be completely natural, here are some amazing home remedies that you can try which are effective in reducing dark spots and blemishes on your face.


1. Almonds & Honey

Almonds are rich in vitamins, healthy fats and also have anti-oxidant properties.


  • Almonds: 10
  • Milk: 1 cup
  • Sandalwood powder: 2 teaspoon
  • Honey: ½ teaspoon


  1. Soak 10 almonds in a cup of milk overnight.
  2. In the morning, take out the almonds and grind them in a mixer.
  3. Add sandalwood powder and honey to the almond paste. Mix it properly.
  4. Using your fingers apply this paste to the affected areas.
  5. Let the paste sit for 30 minutes.
  6. Then, rinse your face with normal water.
  7. Do this remedy 2 times a day.
  8. Do this daily for 2 weeks.

2.Turmeric & Lemon

Turmeric is known for its anti-bacterial, anti-septic properties which help in lightening the skin and therefore removes the dark spots.


  • Turmeric: 2 teaspoons
  • Milk: 3 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice: 1 teaspoon


  1. Mix turmeric, milk and lemon juice in a bowl.
  2. Using your finger, apply this paste to the affected areas.
  3. Keep it the same way for 20 minutes.
  4. Then rinse your face with normal water.
  5. Do this once a day. Do this at night before going to your bed.
  6. Do this regularly for 2 weeks to remove all the dark spots.

3.Aloe vera

Aloe vera is a well known natural spot corrector.


  • Aloe vera leaf: 1


  1. Slit an aloe vera leaf into 2 halves.
  2. Extract the aloe vera gel out of it. Collect the gel in a bowl.
  3. Using your fingertips massage the gel on your face in an upward circular motion.
  4. Let the aloe vera gel sit on your face.
  5. Do this remedy at night before going to bed. 
  6. The next morning, wash your face with normal water and a mild face wash.
  7. Do this once a day, for 3 weeks.

4. Sandalwood & Rosewater

Sandalwood not only soothes the skin but also helps in fading away from the dark spots.


  • Sandalwood powder: 2 teaspoon
  • Glycerine: 1 teaspoon
  • Rosewater: 2 – 3 teaspoon


  1. In a bowl, mix all the three ingredients together i.e. sandalwood powder, glycerine and rosewater.
  2. Stir the mixture properly.
  3. Using your fingers, apply the mixture to the affected areas.
  4. Keep it the same way for 20 minutes.
  5. Afterwards, rinse your face with normal water.
  6. Do this twice a day for 3 weeks.

5. Tomato & Buttermilk

Tomatoes are well known for their anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties. They help in skin fairness and therefore remove all the dark spots.


  • Tomato: 1
  • Muslin cloth: 1
  • Buttermilk: 2 teaspoon


  1. Grind a tomato in a mixer.
  2. Using the muslin cloth, strain the tomato juice.
  3. Mix the tomato juice and buttermilk in a bowl.
  4. Apply this mixture using your fingers on the affected areas.
  5. Let it sit for 20 minutes.
  6. Then, rinse your face with normal water.
  7. Apply this mixture 2 times a day.
  8. Do this remedy daily for 2 weeks.


Following are the precautions that you can take in order to avoid the dark spots:

  • Do not use chemicals or makeup products on your face very often.
  • Make sure your face is moisturised always. Apply a good moisturiser that suits your skin well.
  • Avoid exfoliating your skin if you have open wounds.
  • Always apply sunscreen lotion on your face before going out. It protects your face from harmful sun rays.
  • Always remove your makeup before you go to sleep.
