10 Best Home Remedies for Dandruff

Curd is very popular and effective home remedy for dandruff.Curd is an excellent tonic for the improvement and quality of hair.Anti baterial properties of curd will reduce irritation and itchiness of the scalp.
a).Apply generous amount of whipped curd, massaging from the hair follicles to the end. Allow the curd to rest for 30 minutes before cleansing with a mild shampoo .
b).keep a small quantity of curd for fermentation for 2-3 days.Apply this curd to the scalp and hair.Dry it for 1 hour and wash it off.Doing this not only removes dandruff,but also makes your hair shiny.
c).Make a thick concoction of besan and curd adding enough water. Apply this on the scalp and wash after half an hour.


Neem is known to posses anti- bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory qualities.
a).Take about 50 neem leaves and boil them in two liters of water. Boil the leaves until the water turn into greenish in colour and the leaves soften and drop their colour. Let the solution cool and then strain it. Use the water to rinse your hair after shampoo.
b).Boil 2 handfuls of neem leaves in 5 cups of water and then grind Neem leaves to make a paste and apply it on the scalp. Wash hair after 30 minutes.

4.Lemon Juice

Lemon helps balance ph levels and reduces excessive oils that can be a factor in dandruff.
a).Apply freshly extracted lemon juice over scalp and wash it after 10 minutes.
b).Add lemon with curd and spreading the mixture to the scalp and hair . Allow the curd to rest for 30 minutes before cleansing with a mild shampoo .

5.Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that has been obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of the melaleuca alternifolia, a plant native to Australia.Tea tree oil contains terpinen-4-ol that has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that helps to treat scalp problems. When applied on scalp, it penetrates the hair follicles, unclogs them and kills microorganisms that trigger dandruff, itchy scalp and irritation.One study showed that shampoos with just 5 percent tea tree oil significantly improves the severity of dandruff.
a).You can add 5 – 6 drops of tea tree oil and mix it well in a shampoo or conditioner, Use this solution to rinse your hair and scalp.
b).Take a small application bottle and fill it with 3/4 full of any carrier oil like jojoba oil, olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil.Add 10 -15 drops of tea tree oil in it and mix it well.Apply this to your scalp and hair before going to bed and shampoo it the morning.

6.Baking soda

Baking soda is known to reduce overactive fungi that can cause dandruff. Excess oil on the scalp (another reason for dandruff) can also be reduced with the help of baking soda.Add one teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo and wash your hair as usual.

7.Aloe vera Gel

Aloe vera has anti bacterial and anti-fungal properties which help a lot in keeping a check on dandruff.The proteolytic enzyme in this gel eradicates the dead skin flakes and dandruff that clog hair follicles making hair clean and clear.
a).Rub aloe vera gel into your scalp and hair, leave it for ten minutes, and then shampoo your hair.

8.Fenugreek or Methi

Fenugreek seeds contain protein and nicotinic which are very effective in preventing dandruff, hair fall and baldness. Soak fenugreek seeds overnight and the following morning, grind the soaked seeds to a smooth paste using two spoons of curd. Apply this paste on the dandruff-afflicted scalp, leaving it for an hour before washing thoroughly with cold water. This hair treatment also works as conditioner, makes your hair shine and manageable.
