Homemade Onion Hair Oil for New Hair Growth

If you’re struggling with thinning hair, receding hairlines, or slow hair growth, onion oil might be your natural solution. Onion is rich in sulfur and antioxidants, which help rebuild hair follicles, improve blood circulation to the scalp, and stimulate dormant roots. When combined with other nourishing ingredients like castor oil, fenugreek, and curry leaves, this oil becomes a powerful, growth-boosting elixir that can give you visibly thicker, stronger hair with regular use.

This homemade onion hair oil is free from chemicals, parabens, or synthetic fragrance — it’s 100% natural, affordable, and easy to make at home.

Ingredients Required

  • 2 medium-sized red onions – promotes new hair growth and prevents breakage.
  • ½ cup coconut oil (cold-pressed) – strengthens roots, moisturizes dry scalp, and adds shine.
  • 2 tbsp castor oil – thickens hair and reduces hair fall.
  • 1 tbsp fenugreek (methi) seeds – prevents dandruff and promotes follicle activity.
  • 8–10 fresh curry leaves – nourishes roots and delays premature greying.
  • 1 tbsp black seeds (kalonji) – boosts growth and controls scalp infections.
  • 1 vitamin E capsule (optional) – adds gloss and protects against oxidative damage.

Procedure

  1. Peel and chop the onions into small pieces. Add them to a blender with a few tablespoons of water and blend into a smooth paste.

  2. Strain the paste using a muslin cloth or fine sieve to extract pure onion juice.

  3. In a small saucepan or double boiler, pour coconut oil and castor oil. Add fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, and black seeds.

  4. Warm the mixture on low heat for 6–8 minutes until the seeds turn slightly brown and the curry leaves become crisp. Turn off the flame and let the oil cool slightly.

  5. Once the infused oil is lukewarm, add the extracted onion juice slowly and stir well. Reheat the mixture on very low flame for another 3–4 minutes.

  6. Allow it to cool completely and strain the oil using a clean muslin cloth.

  7. Once the oil cools to room temperature, pierce a vitamin E capsule and mix it in.

  8. Store your onion hair oil in a dark glass bottle to preserve its potency.

Instructions for Use

  • Shake the bottle gently before each use.
  • Take 2–3 tablespoons of the oil (depending on hair length) and warm it slightly.
  • Massage it gently into your scalp using circular motions for 10–15 minutes to stimulate blood flow.
  • Leave it on for at least 1 hour, or ideally overnight for deeper nourishment.
  • Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo and let hair air-dry.
  • Use 2–3 times per week consistently for best results.
