Clove Lemon Okra Collagen Gel: Wrinkle Free, Glowing Skin

If you love that “bouncy, dewy” skin feel, okra (bhindi) is a surprisingly good DIY base. When simmered, okra releases a slippery plant gel-like mucilage that forms a lightweight, hydrating layer on the skin—perfect for a soft, plumped look and smoother texture. To boost the experience, we’ll pair it with clove water (not undiluted clove oil) and a carefully diluted touch of lemon.

Important: clove and lemon can irritate sensitive skin if used too strongly. That’s why this recipe uses gentle dilution, short contact time, and rinse-off usage—especially if you’re new to these ingredients.

Ingredients required:

  • Okra (bhindi) – 6 to 8 medium pods

  • Water – 1 cup

  • Cloves – 6 to 8

  • Aloe vera gel – 1 tbsp

  • Rose water – 1 tbsp

  • Vegetable glycerin – 1 tsp (optional but great for hydration)

  • Honey – ½ tsp (optional; skip if very acne-prone)

  • Vitamin E capsule – 1 capsule (optional; helps with softness)

  • Lemoneither ¼ tsp diluted lemon juice or a small strip of lemon peel (gentler)

  • Green tea – 2 tbsp brewed & cooled (optional antioxidant boost)

Procedure:

  1. Make clove water (gentle infusion)

    • Boil 6–8 cloves in ½ cup water for 2–3 minutes.

    • Switch off the flame, cover, and let it steep for 10 minutes.

    • Strain and cool completely.

  2. Extract okra gel

    • Wash okra well, trim the ends, and slice into pieces.

    • Add okra + 1 cup water to a pan. Simmer for 7–10 minutes until the liquid turns “stringy/jelly-like.”

    • Strain through a fine sieve/clean cloth to collect the gel liquid.

    • Let it cool fully (it thickens as it cools).

  3. Combine (no-cook mixing)

    • In a clean bowl, mix: 3 tbsp okra gel + 1 tbsp clove water + 1 tbsp rose water.

    • Add 1 tbsp aloe vera gel and stir until smooth.

    • Mix in glycerin and honey (if using).

    • Pierce 1 vitamin E capsule and stir in the oil.

  4. Add lemon safely (choose ONE method)

    • Gentler option (recommended): Steep a small strip of lemon peel in the mixture for 3–5 minutes, then remove it.

    • If using juice: Add ¼ tsp lemon juice after diluting it in 1 tsp water (very small amount).

  5. Store

    • Transfer to a sterilised glass jar.

    • Refrigerate and use within 3–5 days (since there are no preservatives).

Instructions (how to use)

  • Patch test first on inner arm/jawline and wait 24 hours—especially important with clove + lemon.

  • Apply a thin layer on clean skin (avoid eyes, lips, and broken skin).

  • Leave on 10–15 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

  • Follow with a simple moisturiser.

  • Use 2–3 times a week.

  • Night use is best, and wear sunscreen the next day (citrus can make some skin more sun-sensitive).

  • If you feel burning or strong tingling, rinse immediately and discontinue.

Sensitive-skin tweak: Skip lemon completely and add a little extra rose water or green tea instead.

Benefits of this DIY:

  • Deep hydration and a “plumped” feel

  • Temporarily smoother-looking fine lines (dehydration lines look softer when skin is hydrated)

  • Fresh glow and softer texture

  • Skin feels soothed and cushioned (thanks to aloe + rose water)

  • Helps reduce the look of dryness and rough patches

  • Lightweight gel texture (comfortable even in humid weather)

  • Antioxidant support if you add green tea

  • Customisable for different skin types (skip honey for oily/acne-prone; skip lemon for sensitive)
