Beetroot Ice Cubes for Flawless Skin
Have you seen the buzz about freezing beetroot into ice cubes? From TikTok influencers to beauty blogs, beetroot ice cubes are trending as a DIY skincare hack. This colorful cold treatment promises a radiant, even complexion using just natural ingredients. Beetroot is a nutrient-packed superfood rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which can help fade dark spots and fight free radicals. And like all ice facials, these frozen cubes can tighten pores and calm redness for an instant glow.
Ingredients Required
-
Beetroot – 1 medium red beet (fresh, peeled and chopped)
-
Carrot – 1 small carrot (peeled and chopped; adds extra vitamin A for glow)
-
Aloe Vera Gel – 2 tablespoons (soothing hydration; from a plant or pure gel)
-
Green Tea – 1/4 cup, brewed and cooled (antioxidant-rich liquid base)
-
Rose Water – 1 tablespoon (optional; hydrates and tones the skin)
-
Lemon Juice – a few drops (optional; adds vitamin C brightening)
-
Honey – 1 teaspoon (moisturizes and helps the cubes glide)
-
Lavender or Tea Tree Essential Oil – 1–2 drops (optional; for a calming fragrance or blemish care)
These are all easy kitchen ingredients (no dairy needed) that supply vitamins, hydration, and gentle exfoliation.
Procedure
Wash, peel, and chop the beetroot and carrot into small pieces (or grate them). Place the pieces in a blender or food processor.
Add a splash of water or green tea and blend until smooth. If needed, strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cloth to separate out any pulp.
Pour the beet-carrot juice into a bowl and stir in the aloe vera gel, rose water, and honey. Add a few drops of lemon juice and one drop of essential oil if using, mixing well.
Pour the liquid into an ice cube tray. Fill each cube mold about ¾ full, leaving a little space at the top to allow for expansion.
Place the tray in the freezer for at least 4–6 hours (overnight is best) until the cubes are completely frozen.
Once frozen, pop out the beetroot cubes and store them in a sealed container or freezer bag. This keeps them fresh and prevents any freezer odors.
Instructions for Use
Start with a fresh, cleansed face to remove any makeup or dirt.
Wrap one beetroot ice cube in a soft cloth or use a cotton pad. Gently glide the cube all over your face, using circular motions.
Continue rubbing for about 1–2 minutes on each area. The cold will help wake up your skin, tightening pores and reducing puffiness as you go.
Limit total contact to about 5–10 minutes each session to avoid skin irritation.
After icing, pat your face dry and apply your favorite serum or moisturizer to lock in hydration.
Use beetroot ice facials about 2–3 times a week. If you have oily, resilient skin, you can try a gentle session each morning. Always listen to your skin and adjust based on how it feels.
Keep any extra cubes in the freezer, tightly covered. Use them within a week for the freshest results.
Benefits
Beetroot: High in vitamin C and antioxidants, beetroot juice can fade dark spots and brighten the skin. Its natural pigments (betalains) also have anti-inflammatory properties that calm redness. Plus, the iron in beetroot supports healthy, rejuvenated skin cell repair.
Carrot: Rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A) and vitamin C, carrots boost your skin’s glow and help clear blemishes.
Aloe Vera: Aloe gel is ultra-soothing and hydrating. When frozen, it tightens pores, calms acne, and can even help heal sunburned or irritated skin.
Green Tea: Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, green tea soothes irritated skin and reduces redness. The icy-cold application also constricts blood vessels, fighting puffiness and giving a refreshing lift.
Rose Water: Rose water helps balance skin’s pH and is a natural toner. It hydrates and refreshes the complexion, leaving skin feeling soft and rejuvenated.
Lemon Juice: A natural source of vitamin C, lemon brightens dull skin and can help fade dark spots over time. (Use sparingly on the face and avoid direct sun immediately after, as citrus can make skin more sensitive.)
Honey: This natural humectant draws moisture into the skin. Honey makes the ice cubes glide smoothly and also soothes sensitive areas, giving skin a healthy glow.
Ice Therapy (Overall): The cold massage itself is a big win for your skin. Icing tightens pores and boosts circulation for a refreshed look. The chilled treatment also helps reduce puffiness and minor swelling, leading to smoother, more radiant skin.
